MUMBAI: A vice president of a private company was shocked when he found out that Rs 11,500 cash was missing from the wallet that he had left behind in the pouch of the chair in the flight while flying from Mumbai to Delhi on Sunday.
Sahar police said the flyer, Mukesh Tiwari(42), learned about the wallet missing when he took a bus from the flight to reach the arrival gate at around 9.30 am on Sunday.Police suspect that the cleaning staff who entered the flight may have stolen the cash wallet.
Tiwari stopped the bus and got in touch with the Indigo Airlines staff present on the bus and got them to check the chair aboard the flight where he had kept the cash wallet. “We are going through the closed-circuit television footage and are also questioning the cleaning staff that had entered the flight for cleaning after the flyers alighted after landing at the airport. Soon the accused will be caught who stole the wallet,” said a police officer of the Sahar police station.
Tiwari, a Marol resident, had visited Delhi with his family on November 13 and returned to Mumbai on November 19 when his wallet was stolen. In the complaint, Tiwari said: “There was around Rs12,000 cash in the wallet which I kept in the pouch of a chair in front of me. I even paid Rs800 to buy food on the flight during the travel. However, I forgot to collect the wallet while alighting from the flight after landing in Mumbai.”
Tiwari immediately got in touch with the airline ground staff present in the bus that was ferrying flyers to the arrival gate from the place where the flight had landed in the airport. “One of the staff, Sayeli Sadanand, searched the flight and handed over the wallet to Martina Fernandes. Tiwari found Rs11,500 missing from the wallet while he found two notes of Rs500, a rupee coin, his ATM card, driving license, and company ID card in it,” said a police officer.
A case of theft has been registered under the Indian Penal Code against an unknown person.
