NEW DELHI: In a shocking and tragic incident, a beloved community activist and accomplished poet, Ryan Carson was brutally stabbed to death in front of his girlfriend in Brooklyn, the New York Post reported.
The horrifying attack occurred as the couple was making their way home from a wedding on Long Island, just before 4 am.on Monday.
Surveillance footage captured the harrowing incident, sending the local community in shock and raising questions about the rising levels of crime in the city.

The video shows Carson, 32, and his girlfriend sitting on a bus stop bench in Bedford-Stuyvesant, engaged in conversation. They get up to walk down the block, following a man in a dark-colored sweatshirt who had walked past them earlier. Without provocation, the man starts kicking scooters parked on the curb, the report said.
Suddenly, he confronts Carson with anger, prompting Carson to step between his girlfriend and the aggressor. Despite Carson’s pleas for the attacker to calm down, the situation escalates. The assailant pulls out a knife and pursues Carson, stabbing him multiple times in the chest while his terrified girlfriend pleads for help.
After the brutal assault, the attacker walks away briefly, returning to spit on the victim’s girlfriend before kicking Carson’s injured body. A woman who appears to know the attacker can be heard shouting at him to stop.
Carson was rushed to Kings County Hospital Center, but the stab wounds had already pierced his heart, and he tragically succumbed to his injuries, the report said, adding that the incident took place at Lafayette Avenue and Malcolm X Boulevard, not far from the Bedford-Nostrand avenues train station.
No arrests have been made so far, but authorities circulated a “Wanted” poster with a close-up image of the suspect in a black “Champion” sweatshirt. The murder weapon is also yet to be recovered.
Ryan Carson, originally from the Boston area, was a senior solid waste campaign manager at the New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG), with a focus on sustainability and environmental policies.
He was described as a dedicated advocate for students and the environment, known for his engaging personality and relentless commitment to causes he cared deeply about, according to the New York Post report.
Carson’s friends and colleagues held a vigil for him in Bedford-Stuyvesant, where they remembered him as the epicenter of a tight-knit community he had created. His selflessness and willingness to go to great lengths to help others were widely acknowledged.
Despite the tragedy, some of those who knew Carson believe that he would have shown empathy even to his assailant, highlighting his remarkable compassion and dedication to making the world a better place. The investigation into this senseless act of violence is ongoing, and the community mourns the loss of a remarkable individual.
