NEW DELHI: Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer displayed scintillating form by notching up rapid centuries, propelling India to a colossal total of 399-5 in the second one-day international against Australia on Sunday.
Suryakumar Yadav, in a blazing display of power hitting, contributed an undefeated 72 off a mere 37 deliveries, while captain KL Rahul added to the batting spectacle with a brisk 52 in the day-night contest in Indore.Take a look at the records that India broke during their run-fest at the Holkar Cricket Stadium.
* After hitting 18 sixes in the innings, India became the first team to smack 3,000 sixes in in the history of the one-day internationals.
* India’s 18 sixes was their joint second best for most sixes in an ODI innings. 19 sixes against Australia in 2013 and New Zealand in Indore this year were their best efforts.
* India’s 399/5 was their highest ODI total against Australia, eclipsing their previous best of 383/6 in Bengaluru back in 2013. India’s highest ODI is 418/5 came against West Indies in 2011.
* During the unbeaten 72 off 37 balls, Suryakumar Yadav became the batter to hit fastest fifty (24 balls) for India against Australia in ODIs, going past Virat Kohli’s record of 27 balls in Jaipur in 2013.
* Shubman Gill owned the record of becoming the fastest Indian batter to score six ODI centuries (35 innings). He went past Shikhar Dhawan’s (46 innings) record of fastest to six ODI hundreds for India.
* Gill also became the fifth batter overall to score five or more ODI hundreds in a calendar year before turning 25. Sachin Tendulkar, Graeme Smith, Upul Tharanga and Kohli are the other batters.
*Cameron Green joined Simon Davis, Craig McDermott, Xavier Doherty and Adam Zampa as he conceded 26 runs including four successive sixes by Suryakumar Yadav for most expensive overs for Australia in ODIs.
* Green’s figures of 103/2 in 10 overs is the third most expensive ODI spell against India. This is also the second most expensive ODI spell for Australia in ODIs after Mick Lewis (113/0 vs SA) and Adam Zampa (113/0 vs SA).
