AIZAWL: At least 17 people were killed after an under-construction rail-road bridge collapsed near the proposed Sairang/Sihmui rail station, about 25 kilometre west of Aizawl, on Wednesday.
According to reports, there were around 40 workers at the site.
Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga took to X (formerly Twitter) and informed about the tragedy.
“Deeply saddened and affected by this tragedy. I extend my deepest condolences to all the bereaved families and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. Sending gratitude to the people who have come out in large numbers to help with rescue operations,” Zoramthanga posted on X.

PM Modi announces ex-gratia
“Pained by the bridge mishap in Mizoram. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon. Rescue operations are underway and all possible assistance is being given to those affected,” PM Modi posted on X.
PM also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
